For the last two years Alminco has been involved in the development of key technology and equipment for underground coal mining industry - a reliable, fully encapsulated self drilling rock bolt.

With partners GSS, Alminco has designed, patented, manufactured and trialled a hollow bolt, drill head and injection system that could be fitted to a continuous miner and reduce cycle times for roof and rib bolting.

Significant productivity improvements and roadway development rates will be possible once the technology is successfully commercialised. Currently being trialled on an Alminco Scorpion mobile bolting machine, a full scale field trial utilising 1000 bolts is planned for NSW, Australia within the coming months of 2009.
